Juliet Victor Aszu 6 Puttonyos 2017
Points: 17.5 ++ / 20
Tasting notes “Front loaded with masses of mango and pineapple and lavishly sweet tropical fruits, counterbalanced with a great swash of lime. Extravagantly luscious; no-holds-barred; proudly Aszú to the very last molecule. There is so much concentration and resolute, ferocious sweetness plus acidity that this is a Tokaj that absolutely must be packed away in the cellar. It needs time to fit into its own forcefield.” (Tamlyn Currin)

JancisRobinson.com (October 2021)
Juliet Victor Szamorodni 2017
Points: 17 / 20
Tasting notes “Deep gold – even deeper colour than the 6 Puttonyos Aszú tasted alongside it. A creamy, apricot panna-cotta nose. Touch of honeysuckle and oranges. The acidity is so vibrant it almost fizzes in the mouth. Rich apricot-marmalade flavours, layer upon layer, and the finish floods the mouth with coruscating freshness and intensity. Super-chilled, this turned out to be one of the best matches with think slices of cured Mangalitza ham (similar to jamón ibérico).” (Tamlyn Currin)

Juliet Victor Szamorodni 2016
Points: 17.5 / 20
Tasting notes “Fractionally darker than the orange-amber of the 2017. No less sweet (my forehead is now damp with the sweetness!). This has a sharper, longer intention. Coruscating. Incendiary. Ripe clementines exploding into the apricots. Stunning purity. Long, empyrean, with an almost ancient cosmic-dust-and-stars endlessness to the stone-dust bones wiring the fruit with voltage.” (Tamlyn Currin)

Juliet Victor Furmint Kiraly 2017
Points: 17+ / 20
Tasting notes “Locust-tree flowers (if you've ever smelt a locust tree in flower, a wildly heady perfume, you will know exactly what I mean!). This is a fizz-popping catherine-wheel firework of a wine! This is like tasting the best lime pickle with an electric current running through it, and then wrapping that in homemade just-fired-into-mouth-popping jalapeno tempura and then slip-sliding the length of a waterfall. It's salty and stony and glistening with scintillas of acidity and it has the lean build of an Olympic child gymnast and so much texture it almost has tannins. This is Furmint while it's still ascendant, still becoming, wearing its shiny brittle carapace like a superhero, racing through so fast and intently that you're left stunned with awe, bewildered or terrified. Give this Furmint a little bit of time. It's exciting now, but the beauty of it will become apparent as it develops.” (Tamlyn Currin)

Juliet Victor Furmint Bomboly 2017
Points: 17 / 20
Tasting notes “This is a riotous pile of golden May blossom – you can almost hear the bees and smell the nectar as you hold this in your mouth. It tastes-smells-tastes-smells of wisteria and pineapple peel and lilac blossom and honey and lime leaf and brined green olives. It feels like glass splinters wrapped in satin. It's that lavender sachet you find under the antique-linen pillow case that still smells of hot iron, and it smells of earthworm casts and the crush of new grass in early summer. Sussurant acidity, like wind through an August wheat field. It's a wine that sends me to the Japanese concept of ikigai – iki, meaning life, and gai, meaning (broadly) value in everyday things. It's a kind of soul purpose that encompasses joy in living the small things, work, discipline, service, giving, simplicity. This wine, with its complex simplicity, its generosity, its unrigid self-discipline, it's joy, tastes like ikigai to me.” (Tamlyn Currin)

Juliet Victor Furmint Betsek 2017
Points: 17+ / 20
Tasting notes “Smells of cool, mossy, forest-stream pebbles, hennaed with last year's autumn leaves. Pears, if you could call this cool, held-tight-into-itself, stony, lime-soaked fruit 'pears'. I taste this wine and it hands me a facsimile of fossils, a piece of stone scratched with poetry, a scatter of polyhedral dice carved out of rock and bone and carved into luck. It hands me an aloof almost-snarl and the bone of its shoulder. This is mithril and grass-stained knees. It is ocean-swept rain and black clouds and bracken-stained streams. Put it away in a dark cool corner of your cellar and coax it out in no less than two years' time.” (Tamlyn Currin)

Juliet Victor Szamorodni 2017

Tasting notes “Top-notch, new-wave Szamorodni with similar sweetness to Aszú but made in a fresher, fruitier style. Incredibly inviting with great expression of super-clean noble rot complexity, and aromas of apricot, sultana, mango and rose petal, plus a twist of spice. To taste, it is incredibly luscious and velvety, yet fresh and graceful.”

Decanter World Wide Awards 2020 - Best in Show
Juliet Victor Szamorodni 2017
Points: 97
Tasting notes “Szamorodni, famously, means 'as it comes' in Hungarian. If it comes like this, then it can't come often enough. This bright gold Tokaji smells fresh and lively yet alluring and sensual too, with the fragrance of Harslevelu and the sweetly grapy appeal of Muscat Lunel joining the less focussed warmth and force of Furmint. On the palate, this is a decidedly rich wine with ample sweet unction. It guards all that aromatic finesse right the way through the palate, despite the sugars; there is some supporting acidity, but it is really the quiet, pale inner fire of the Fumint which brings balance. No question but that this could be aged with profit - yet it's so delicious now, as it comes…”
